It’s estimated that 75% of a kitchen’s food waste can be composted and turned back into healthy soil. When you compost, you not only save money on regular trash pick up, you’ll also see exactly which food items go unused in your kitchen. You can shop smarter, waste less, and save more.

KC Can Compost trains and hires formerly homeless men and women to collect and compost food scraps and food waste. Composting with KC Can Compost means you’re enabling living wage jobs in a safe, therapeutic, and supportive work environment.

Each year, 52.4 million tons of food is sent to landfills where it rots and produces the dangerous gas methane. Methane is 21 times more harmful to the environment than CO2. KC Can Compost helps you decrease our city’s greenhouse gas emissions and reduce your carbon footprint.

Green Core Training
KC Can Compost’s Green Core Training program utilizes the Roots of Success and Conover curricula to provide environmental literacy and work readiness training to individuals with barriers to employment. The program then provides assistance to program graduates to help them obtain green internships or jobs.
